Welcome to Porters employment page.

Applications for the 2012 winter season at Porters are accepted from January to April 2012 .

We offer a fun and enjoyable team atmosphere at Porters, and strive to achieve the highest levels of service for our customers. If you enjoy mixing challenging and fulfilling work with the appropriate balance of play-time (skiing and boarding) then Porters could be for you.

Please note that the positions as detailed below are available for 2012 . If you’d like to apply, please read through all the information below, and submit an online application. If successful, we’ll then be in touch with you to arrange an interview time.

Unless qualified and experienced in the ski industry (i.e. qualified patrollers, instructors or snowmakers), all applicants must be available for a personal interview in May in Christchurch. We do not offer phone or skype interviews – no interview, no job. Interviews will be held in Christchurch on the 11th and 18th of May.

Positions Available

Porters Ski Area employs 50 staff during the winter season, which runs from late June to the beginning of October. We also have part time positions for the July school holidays and weekends.

Who are we looking for when we employ staff?
We require team players who are dedicated and provide our customers with the best possible service & experience.  You need to be energetic and positive, be able to work under pressure, love the outdoors and its challenging environment. Working at a ski area should be seen as a life style rather than a place where you earn a lot of money.

Duration of Employment; 22 June to 7 October 2012

Many of our positions have now been filled for the 2012 winter season. We are still looking for;

  • a part time qualified snowboard instructor
  • a part time (weekends and July school holidays) Liftie
  • a rental equipment assistant
  • a full time qualified ski instructor

How do I apply for a Position?

We only accept applications by our online application formAll applications must be received by 1 May 2012 .

Please include a cover letter (within the same file) with your current curriculum vitae. Additionally, please state if you want a full-time or part-time position, part-time means weekend and holidays only.

For the Ski & Snowboard School, please include with your CV a copy of relevant qualifications, plus a photograph.

All overseas applicants need to send a recent passport-type photograph plus a copy of your work visa.

We are only able to help fully qualified instructors, patrollers and groomer operators to obtain a work permit. Please note that the position of ‘Instructors’ and ‘Ski Technician’ is on our Immediate Skill Shortage List, so you can apply for a visa directly through your nearest NZ Embassy.

All others need to get a working holiday visa before we can consider the application (does not apply to NZ or Australian residents).

The visas can be applied for through the New Zealand Embassy of your country. Note that the visa must be applied for in your home country – working holiday visas are not issued once you are in New Zealand.

Interviews: All applicants from New Zealand & overseas (except instructors) need to be available for a personal interview in Christchurch on the 11th or 18th of May. We do not offer phone or Skype interviews.

Pay rates: Pay rates start at $14 per hour. Hours of work and length of employment can vary with weather and snow conditions. We only employ people who can make a commitment for the entire season. During the peak season most full-time employees can expect to work 5 days per week for 40 hours.

Accommodation: We can assist staff in finding accommodation in the Springfield area, though all employees are responsible for finding their own accommodation for the season unless otherwise specified by management. Transport from Springfield to and from the ski area is provided.
