We offer a fun and enjoyable team atmosphere at Porters, and strive to achieve the highest levels of service for our customers. If you enjoy mixing challenging and fulfilling work with the appropriate balance of play-time (skiing and boarding), then Porters could be for you.
We employ 50 staff during the winter season, which runs from late June to the beginning of October. We also have part time positions for the July school holidays and weekends.

|GUEST SERVICES & ADMINISTRATION MANAGER|
|Porters Ski Area is seeking an experienced Administration Manager. This is a full-time, year-round position with at least 4 months of the winter operating season based on the mountain in the guest services department. Working as part of a small management team, the primary function of this role is to co-ordinate and lead guest services and related administration.

|SKI & SNOWBOARD INSTRUCTOR/QUALIFIED RACE COACH/experienced Snowsports School Manager
|With Qualification NZ Stage One as a minimum requirement. Full or part-time positions available. Overseas Instructors need to be experienced in teaching and preferably have ISIA qualification. We are also looking for an experienced manager of the snowsports school which is mainly office based, selling lessons, dealing with customers and managing up to 20 instructors.|
|Must be able to work varied shifts and be flexible. The ability to work in a cold & harsh environment is essential as is physical fitness. Previous experience with machinery is preferred.|
|GRADER OPERATOR/MAINTENANCE PERSON|
|This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, fit and competent applicant. We look for a person with relevant mechanical trade and preferably with experience in operating graders and/or other machinery. Experience in ski area snowmaking would be beneficial. Must be able to work shifts in a cold and challenging environment with a love for the outdoors.|
|Duties include the operation and basic maintenance of snow groomers. It is essential that applicants possess a minimum of 3 winter seasons experience in the operation of winch snow groomers, grooming downhill ski slopes and terrain parks, a working knowledge of heavy machinery and a strong mechanical aptitude, a can-do attitude and not afraid of hard work to achieve the task at hand.Applicants require a NZ drivers licence and tracks endorsement|
|SKI PATROLLER/SNOW SAFETY|
|Duties include: ensuring a safe and enjoyable ski area environment for all guests and staff. To maintain and promote the highest possible standards of service, safety and professionalism. It is essential that applicants possess; Professional Ski Patrol/ Snow safety experience; Pre-hospital Emergency Care qualification and possibly Avalanche Safety Stage Two qualification with Snow blasting approved handler certification.|
|LIVE-IN COOK and COMMERCIAL LODGE MANAGERS
|Live-in cook for the staff quarters must have current driver licence and experience in cooking for up to 15 people. We are also looking for experienced lodge managers, preferably a mature couple, who can deliver outstanding meals and are able to manage a 40-bed commercial lodge.|
|MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN / MECHANIC|
|We are looking for a suitably skilled person to join the maintenance team on the ski area. A trade qualification in mechanical or engineering areas would be preferred, however a person with proven experience and aptitude may be considered for this position. You will join a small team of skilled and dedicated people who form the core of the mountain operation ensuring a safe and efficient operation of the ski area and its facilities. The role involves the mechanical repair and maintenance of plant, equipment and machinery that is owned and operated by the company. This includes but is not limited to the service and repair of diesel generator plant, snow grooming machinery, grader, excavator, snow making equipment, small engines, passenger vehicles, lift drive engines etc. An onsite workshop provides a base for maintenance work but many tasks are carried out in the field. The applicant would be expected to provide their own basic hand tools with specialised tools and equipment being provided by the company. 4x4 vehicle will be provided for work on site and transport from Springfield each day is available

Working on a ski area offers many unique experiences and rewards with no work day the same. The mountain environment can be challenging at times and suits someone with a “can do” attitude who appreciates working in the outdoors. Porters Ski Area is a growing company, showing commitment to its improvement and development with the recent installation of a Doppelmayr fixed quad chair in 2015, extensive earthworks and snowmaking system and power distribution upgrade.
This fixed term position (40 hours p/w min) would begin on 6th June through to approx. 1st Oct. This position will lead to an offer of full-time employment to the right applicant.

Pay rates start at $14.75 per hour. Hours of work and length of employment can vary with weather and snow conditions. We only employ people who can make a commitment for the entire season. During the peak season most full-time employees can expect to work 5 days per week for 40 hours.
We can assist staff in finding accommodation in the Springfield area, though all employees are responsible for finding their own accommodation for the season unless otherwise specified by management. Transport from Springfield to and from the ski area is provided.
