As part of our expansion programme, we are working with the Department of Conservation to help restore an area of native forest at Lord’s Bush, near Kowai Bush and the Waimakariri Gorge.
Porter’s plays and integral part in the restoration plan, with a hand’s on role in restoring this magnificent native area. With our partners at Boffa Miskell, and working directly with DOC, we have prepared the ‘Lord’s Bush Restoration Manual’. If you’re interested in the project, please click on the link below to download a PDF document containing the restoration plan.

The Community Open Day in April 2011 proved very popular. Approximately 35 members of the community of all ages attended. They included neighbours, local farmers and environmentalists, staff from the Department of Conservation, an Environment Canterbury Commissioner and the local Member of Parliament as well as Porters Staff.
It was beautiful Sunday afternoon and after a briefing from Porters and DOC Staff, everyone walked around the site.
Members of the Community visitors identified a number of ways to be involved, in addition to those already considered by Blackfish and DOC.
These included:
- an offer from one neighbour to assist with stoat trapping;
- an offer from a local retired farmer to help to organise volunteers for planting days;
- re-allocate part of the budget to establish the role of a Community Relations Coordinator in a very part-time role to assist with school involvement etc;
- consider establishing a Community Liaison Committee.
They also noted that it is important that community involvement continues after the 10 years addressed in this plan – Blackfish and DOC need to address this.
This feedback has been incorporated into the Final Version of the restoration plan which is now available to download from our website.
Thank you for all those people who were able to attend. It is a very exciting initiative for Porters and the Community to be involved in.
Thanks,
Porters Expansion Team.
