Porters Ski Area, the closest ski area to Christchurch has for the first time this season opened the top lifts, with awesome dry powder snow which fell over the last few days. This morning the ski area received a 15cm top up of dry powder which was the ‘cream on the cake’ and more snow is forecast for tonight and tomorrow night. The weather outlook for the rest of the week including the weekend is for mainly fine weather.
‘It was definitely worth the wait,’ says Porters General Manager, Uli Dinsenbacher. ‘Thanks to our state-of-the-art snowmaking system, we’ve been able to operate with prime conditions on the lower mountain so far this season. And now we have the whole mountain for everyone to enjoy, which should put a smile on everyone’s face.
‘There must be a lot of excited skiers out there eagerly awaiting the best snow conditions of this season. It’s going to be a big week with ski runs like Sundance, Julian’s Bowl and Bluff Face in prime condition.’
If chains are required for Porters’ access road, a complimentary shuttle departs the chain fitting area daily at 9.30am.
