August Events Update

Last Saturday and Sunday, Porters had record-breaking numbers of skiers and boarders on the hill. The snow conditions and the weather combined into the perfect weekend, made extra special with the added excitement of our inaugural After Dark session. The floodlit Park Jam ran from 6 -8:30 pm and participants thrilled the spectators with their skills and daring. It was an awesome event which we hope to repeat in the near future. The overall winner of the session was Eli Woollaston – thanks to everyone who participated and came along to watch.

On Wednesday this week, nearly 100 young ski racers from Canterbury Independent primary schools were on the mountain for their annual championships. Representing seven schools, the students keenly competed for the trophies on a somewhat foggy morning, which cleared into another fine day. Now in its 12th year, the ISSA Champs encourages students of all ages to test their racing skills, but mainly just have fun. The day was a great success, with the ultimate winning team being the Selwyn Racers from Selwyn House School. Paige Causer of Selwyn House School was the fastest girl on the day, while the fastest boy was Will Gibson from Waihi School. Click here to see the results. Thanks everyone for a great day, and we will see you again next year!

There are plenty more events happening in the next few weeks - save the dates!

McNulty’s Supercross will be held next weekend on Saturday 5th September, quickly followed by the Grom Factor on Sunday 6th. Midweek, on Wednesday 9th September, we will hold the Local Schools Derby, which is looking like another fun team event and well supported by our local primary schools.

Oktoberfest is planned for Sunday 13th September. One of our favourite days of the season, Oktoberfest is a chance to air out the lederhosen, grab a stein of beer, and munch on a pretzel for a relaxing lunch with friends on the café terrace – then head back up the chair for fabulous spring skiing and riding conditions.

Retro Day is on September 19th – we look forward to seeing you re-live the earlier fashions of the slopes – some awesome prizes on offer that day. Dig out the fluoro ski gear and join in the fun.
All up, it’s going to be a busy month – the best time of the season in many ways- excellent snow, warm temperatures and sunny clear days.
