We have had an incredible start to the season. The school holidays were very busy, with several days exceeding previous records for customer numbers at Porters. We were thrilled with the ease our brand new Easy Rider chairlift handled the crowds. It was superbly efficient ensuring minimum queues. We have seen consistent snowfalls over the past few weeks, leaving our mountain in fantastic shape, and providing some epic days up here. The latest snowfall on Tuesday night brought another 15cm of great powder.
It's that time of year again, the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting colder, this can only mean one thing, winter is coming! It has been a challenging start to the summer: We have had wind, rain and snow over the last few weeks and for the first time ever we can say that the snow is not welcome. The Porters crew have been working hard preparing for the chairlift installation and the snow has not made the job any easier. The old T-bar one is now completely dismantled and earthworks are underway re-shaping the terrain.
The final week of the ski season next week is looking great - we have amazing conditions on all groomed runs including the intermediate and beginner’s area. The best runs on the upper mountain are Sundance, McNulty’s Track and Bluff Face, all these runs are simply magic.
Porters Ski Area announced today the installation of a new four-seater chairlift to replace its first T-bar. It will be the closest chairlift to Christchurch and the first to be installed in the Canterbury region in nearly a decade. The chairlift is part of a multi-million dollar work programme over the summer.
The Porters ISSA Independent ski racing championships, proudly sponsored by Dynastar Skis and Lange Ski Boots were today held in perfect conditions on T-bar 1. A strong field of primary racers dominated the course, fast times and lots of fun.
