We offer a fun and enjoyable team atmosphere at Porters, and strive to achieve the highest levels of service for our customers. If you enjoy mixing challenging and fulfilling work with the appropriate balance of play-time (skiing and boarding!), then Porters could be for you.
We employ 50 staff during the winter season, which runs from late June to the beginning of October. We also have part-time positions for the July school holidays and weekends.

Unless qualified and experienced in the ski industry (i.e. qualified patroller, instructor or snow-maker), all applicants must be available for a personal interview in May in Christchurch. We do not offer phone or Skype interviews – no interview, no job.

Duties include: ensuring a safe and enjoyable ski area environment for all guests and staff, to mainitain and promote the highest possible standards of service safety and professionalism. It is essential that applicants possess: Professional Ski Patrol / Snow Safety experience; Pre-Hospital Emergency Care qualification; Avalanche Safety Stage Two qualification (desirable); Snow blasting approved handler certification
|Ticket Office / Guest Services||For a guest services position, you must have exceptional guest service skills, be familiar with computer systems, experience in cash handling, daily reconciliations or banking.|
|Lift Operator / Ticket Checker||Applicants should be competent skiers or boarders, enjoy working with the public and have a tidy appearance.|
|Ski Technician / Rental Fitter||Preferably with experience in repairing and tuning ski and snowboard equipment. A pleasant outgoing manner with a tidy appearance required for busy hire service.|
|Ski & Snowboard Instructors||Qualification NZ Stage One is a minimum requirement. Full or part-time positions available. Overseas instructors need to be experienced in teaching and preferably have ISIA qualifications.|
|Snowmaker||Must be able to work varied shifts and be flexible. The ability to work in a cold and harsh enviornment is essential as is phyiscal fitness. Previous experience with machinery|

|Groomer Operator||Duties include the operation and basic maintenance of snow groomers. It is essential that applicants possess a minimum of three winter seasons experience in the operation of winch snow groomers, grooming downhill ski slopes and terrain parks. A working knowledge of heavy machinery and a strong mechanical aptitude, a can-do attitude and not being afraid of hard work to achieve the task at hand is desirable. Applicants require a NZ drivers license and preferably tracks endorsement.|
|Ski Patroller / Snow Safety||Duties include: ensuring a safe and enjoyable ski area environment for all guests and staff. |Food & Berage Sfaff / Baristas||Should be experienced in food handling, food hygiene and preparation. We are also looking for experienced baristas.|
|Car Park Attendant||Assist guests with parking. Must be flexible to also work in other departments as required.|
|Part-Time Positions||We are looking for lift operations, car park attendants, ticket office staff, ski hire staff, cafe staff and qualified instructors for half-day and full-day work, particularly on weekends and during hte July school holidays. We also look for shuttle drivers with Class 2 and P-Licence for weekends.|

Please include a cover letter (within the same file) with your current curriculum vitae. Additionally, please state if you want a full-time or part-time position, part-time means weekend and holidays only. For the Ski & Snowboard School, please include with your CV a copy of relevant qualifications, plus a photograph.
All overseas applicants need to send a recent passport-type photograph plus a copy of your work visa.
We are only able to help fully qualified instructors, patrollers and groomer operators to obtain a work permit. Please note that the position of ‘Instructors’ and ‘Ski Technician’ is on our Immediate Skill Shortage List, so you can apply for a visa directly through your nearest NZ Embassy.
All others need to get a working holiday visa before we can consider the application (does not apply to NZ or Australian residents).

The visas can be applied for through the New Zealand Embassy of your country. Note that the visa must be applied for in your home country – working holiday visas are not issued once you are in New Zealand.

Pay rates start from $16.50/hour. Hours of work and length of employment can vary with weather and snow conditions. We only employ people who can make a commitment for the entire season. During the peak season most full-time employees can expect to work 5 days per week for 40 hours.
We can assist staff in finding accommodation in the Springfield area, though all employees are responsible for finding their own accommodation for the season unless otherwise specified by management. Transport from Springfield to and from the ski area is provided.
