Now you’ve discovered us, you might as well come and say hello! And it really is so easy. We’re only 89km from the Christchurch Airport – just a bit over an hour in the car, along the Great Alpine Highway.
Simply take Highway 73 heading west from Christchurch, and it’s an easy, predominantly straight drive to Porters. You’ll pass through the small country townships of Darfield, Sheffield and Springfield, which is our base village and is the last stop to get petrol and food before you head up.
From Springfield, you head through the Porters Pass, past Lake Lyndon, and we are well sign-posted on the left side of the road. We also run a free mountain road shuttle on weekends, during the July school holidays and on days when chains are required, see below for further information.
Porters is a little more than an hour’s easy driving from the Christchurch Airport. Once you get here, it’s all good – our access road is in tip-top shape, it’s one of the easiest in the country.
However before you head off, remember to check the snow report on our website to see if chains are required. If you rather not bother with snow chains, check in with us, we have a free mountain road shuttle and can transport you from the ski area chain fitting area to the base buildings in no time. Shuttle bookings are essential, so drop us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Mountain Road Shuttle
Don’t have chains for your car? Well, that’s no reason to miss out on great skiing! Jump on our FREE shuttle bus that runs from the chain fitting area on the Porters Ski Area access road on days when chains are required. Please check our daily snow report for times and frequency of our shuttle service on any given day as this schedule can change day by day.
July School Holidays and weekends
The Shuttle on weekends and during the July school holidays goes every hour from 9am to midday, but only when chains are required. Booking is essential by emailing email@example.com before 9am. Return trips start from 3pm.
Week days (Monday -Friday)
During the week, Monday to Friday, outside the July holidays, the mountain road shuttle does not operate when chains are not required . It only operates if chains are required and if customers book the shuttle. To book a space for the 9am shuttle, please email us before 9am. Remember.... no booking, no shuttle. Pick up is either from the Ski Area Chain Bay or Long Spur. Please look out for signs indicating at which pick up spot you need to wait.
