We have had an incredible start to the season. The school holidays were very busy, with several days exceeding previous records for customer numbers at Porters. We were thrilled with the ease our brand new Easy Rider chairlift handled the crowds. It was superbly efficient ensuring minimum queues. We have seen consistent snowfalls over the past few weeks, leaving our mountain in fantastic shape, and providing some epic days up here. The latest snowfall on Tuesday night brought another 15cm of great powder.
We have some exciting events in the near future, beginning with the McNulty's Supercross on the 15th of August. We are thrilled to be holding our inaugural "After Dark Session Vol-1" on 22nd of August from 6pm. There will be a big light bank set up and a free BBQ for entrants. You can register on line for this event here. The Porters Gromfactor has been postponed until the 6th of September.
The official opening of Easy Rider Chairlift took place on Wednesday, 5th of August. We were delighted to have the Hon. Bill English, Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand, officiate at the plaque unveiling and ribbon cutting ceremony. Kaharoa Manihera ,representing local iwi, performed a karakia to bless the lift. Other official guests included John Morton from Selwyn District Council, Sheena Crawford and Averlea Burgess from Christchurch & Canterbury Tourism, Justin Watson from Christchurch Airport, Jo Coughlan from Silvereye Communications, Chris Stewart from DOC, Grant Horner and Gareth Hayman from Doppelmayr Lifts, Phil and Daphne Thomson from Thomson Earth Moving and Marton Sinclair from Elliot Sinclair Engineering. It was a memorable occasion and a fitting celebration acknowledging the effort and commitment shown by many.
This weekend the weather looks good, so check out our daily ski report, come on up and sample some of the best snow around.
