If you are looking for expert tuition to improve your confidence, perfect your technique or you're looking to explore new terrain, we have fun, world-class instructors on hand to help.
Porters is a great place to learn to ski or snowboard, with an array of instructors specialising in all abilities and skills. If you're a beginner, we have both adult and children's lessons designed to get you moving with ease and confidence in our designated beginner's area.
Our beginners' carpet lift and expansive beginners area is perfect for first-timers, while the platter lift and intermediate area is the perfect transition before moving onto the Easy Rider chairlift and further up the ski area.
We offer group lessons for adults and children age 5 and above (age 8 and above for snowboarding), and a Kids Camp aimed at younger children with the sole aim to have fun on the snow!

Level 1: It’s my first time, I’ve never skied or snowboarded before
Level 2: I have skied / snowboarded before and can make round wedge turns to control speed and stop
Level 3: I can start a turn with a wedge and finish with skis parallel / make basic linked turns on a snowboard
Women's Ski Improvement Classes
Join Lucy Appleton in our female-only class to improve your skills and confidence in a fun and friendly session. Lucy is a Canterbury local with a keen interest in skiing, sound technical knowledge and a helpful approach.
- Lessons cost $50 per session (or book eight for $350)
- Every Tuesday between 11am - 1.30pm (outside the school holidays)
- Includes a free coffee!
How to Book
There are no pre-bookings for group lessons, just turn up and head to Guest Services to book your place and organise your equipment. Lessons are offered on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the lesson. We advise arriving at least one hour before the start of the group lesson time to ensure your place.
