We’re only 89km from the Christchurch Airport; just over an hour in the car along the Great Alpine Highway.
Drive
Simply take Highway 73 heading west from Christchurch, and it’s an easy, predominantly straight drive to Porters. You’ll pass through the small country townships of Darfield, Sheffield and Springfield, which is our base village and is the last stop to get petrol before you head up.
From Springfield, you head through the Porters Pass, past Lake Lyndon, and we are well sign-posted on the left side of the road.
Before you head off, check our Snow Report to see if snow chains are required. We offer a free mountain road shuttle on weekends, during the July school holidays and on days when chains are required (see below for further info).
Porters Shuttle Service
A free shuttle bus will run from the chain-fitting area on the mountain access road on days when chains are required.
Pick up time: 9.30am
Return time: 3.30pm
On weekends and during the July school holidays, when chains are required, the shuttle will run more frequently (until 11.30am).
Just follow the signs on the Porters access road until you reach the chain-fitting area. This will be clearly signposted and is where you will meet the shuttle bus.
The scheduled shuttle service is complimentary to guests who are purchasing a lift ticket. Guests who are visiting the mountain for snow play will be charged $10 per person.
Private Shuttle Service
A private shuttle bus can be arranged at other times at a cost of $10 per person. The private shuttle must be booked in advance; please contact us on the details below to arrange a pick up:

Take a Shuttle From Christchurch/Methven/West Coast
If you’re anything like us locals, you’ll want as much time on the snow as you can get. For a full day on the snow, a good idea is to book a ride on one of our shuttle buses. They leave Christchurch at about 7.30am, and head home at 4pm , back in Christchurch around 6pm. It’s an easy way to make the most of your day.
